Happy Birthday, Twinkies!
After a pretty sleepless night, we got ready to head to the hospital for the twins' birthday party! When we checked in, we were taken to the Pre-op room where Shay got hooked to up the monitors and IVs. After a short wait, Shay was taken to the operating room to get her spinal anethesia. Shortly after 11am, John came in all dressed in his daddy outfit (scrub covers) and Dr. Simmons began the c-section. Before we knew it, Andrew William was about to be born! Because of his size and breech position, he took a little convincing (read: pushing!) to come out! Finally, he made his grand entrance at 11:11am! Eden Grace didn't want to miss out on any of the fun, so she came out quickly at 11:12am!
John went to watch the babies get cleaned up and weighed, and he took lots of pictures so Mommy would be able to see all the action! Everyone in the OR was AMAZED when Andrew weighed in at a whopping 7 lbs. 4 oz, and Eden was 6 lbs. 5 oz.! How wonderful to have such big, healthy twins! They both had Apgar scores of 8 and 9!!
The surgery finished up and we all went to the recovery area together as a family! That's right, the twins stayed with us the entire time since they were doing so well. I (Shay) was feeling great and had no complications. I even got to start nursing them in recovery!
After a couple hours we made it to our mother-baby room. The twins got their first baths and John learned how to change diapers for the first time! Then, all the grandparents and Aunt Liz came to the room to meet the newest family members! We took lots and lots of pictures of course!
It was a wonderful birthday for the twins, and everything could not have been better! We were so blessed to have great doctors, nurses, family, and friends to share in this life-changing experience!
