Barn Quilt and Front Dormer

A few years ago as we were driving down the mountain into McDowell County, I noticed several barns that had a large quilt-block design hanging on one side.  I thought it was really interesting, and so I researched the origins and meanings of them.  Turns out, there are several of these "Barn Quilt Trails" all over the country, and most of them require it to be an original design or color palette.  When we decided to build this house, I knew I wanted to incorporate a Barn Quilt as a decorative piece.  Even better, I found a local craft artist that hosts a DIY Barn Quilt class, so I immediately signed up!  We knew we wanted to include a blackberry as part of the design, so John worked his computer magic and helped plan out the 3ft x 3ft grid design.  I had a great time making it, even though it took me 7 hours and I was the last in the class to finish!

After the class was finished, I had to drive by the house and see the progress.  The roof boards are up and almost ready for shingles, and the front dormer was installed!!
